Supporting Mums In Crisis: The Lifegiver Project
A couple of weeks back a good friend I made during my Moo Music era with my first daughter sent me a message.
She told me about a Mum who had suddenly had to flee her home with her baby to escape an abusive relationship. She had nothing for herself, but more importantly to her... nothing for her child.
The word went out and between us we gathered all the baby clothes, toys, blankets and paraphernalia we could find to pass on to this Mum in need.
We knew nothing of her, but that didn't matter. It was so inspiring to think that this woman's baby would not only be cared for by the most important person in his world, but also by Mums who had heard her story.
It spurred me to look into the statistics around domestic abuse in the UK, which I knew very little about. I was shocked at what I learned.
According to the NHS, domestic abuse often begins or escalates during a woman’s pregnancy. A staggering 1 in 3 pregnant women will experience it firsthand.
The Maternal Mental Health Alliance cites that up to 30% of domestic abuse cases begin during pregnancy, with around 20% of women in Refuge’s services being either pregnant or having recently given birth.
I felt so sad reading all this and started thinking of ways I could use photography to give Mums an opportunity to support each other.
Personally, I’ve made some of the best friends of my life since becoming a Mum and I believe wholeheartedly in the power of female solidarity. So I’ve designed a project to celebrate the miracle of motherhood in a collection of fine art portraits captured on medium format film…
The Lifegiver Project
For the month of March 2025, I'll be offering expectant Mums a full maternity photography session for just £99 (normally £285) and will be donating this session fee to the Wirral Women and Children’s Aid (WWACA) charity.
Sessions will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at locations on the Wirral and West Cheshire. Places will be limited and booked on a first come first served basis.
Each Mum-to-be will receive three beautifully mounted 10x8” prints of their choice, with the option to purchase more if they choose.
The project is about celebrating the miracle of Motherhood, whilst also giving Mums the opportunity to support local Mums and children who find themselves in crisis.
I’m so excited to be partnering with the WWACA. I was thrilled when I pitched the idea to them and they immediately supported what I was trying to do and matched my enthusiasm for it.
Since my involvement in the D-Day Revisited charity has been winding down, I’ve really missed that community connection. I learned so much during that era in my life and I know how enriching it is to invest whatever time and skill you have into making the world just a little bit better.
So I’m excited to support the work of this small, community-led charity which has provided more than 6000 nights of accommodation to women in crisis, taken over 2500 helpline calls and supported 75 local families.
If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know I’m all about helping Mums get into the frame and capture memories with their children. So I love that the charity also funds activities to help Mums to begin to build new, happier memories with their children; as this is understandably something they often can’t afford to prioritise.
If you're in the North West and know of someone who is expecting a baby this Spring, I'd be so grateful if you'd share this with them and help to support Mums and little ones in need.
And if you don’t, I’d still be really grateful if you’d share a link to this page on your social media! It would help us get the word out, enable us to give as many Mums-to-be the opportunity to capture this moment in their journey with beautiful photographs AND raise as much money as possible for the WWACA.
Spring is traditionally the time to celebrate new beginnings and with Mother’s Day coming up on 30th March, this would make a wonderful gift for anyone on the cusp of meeting their new baby boy or girl!
To book your £99 maternity photography session or gift one to someone you love contact me directly and quote “The Lifegiver Project”. Whether you’d like to have your portrait taken in the comfort of your own home, in the great outdoors or in a studio environment, I look forward to tailoring your session to you.
Thank you so much for your support!
UPDATE 26th MARCH 2025
I’m extending this offer until end of May 2025, so if you’re a Mum-to-be expecting a baby later this Spring in early Summer and would like to get in touch then pop me a quick message, I’d love to help you capture this important moment in your story!
