A Day in the Life; Honest Family Photography on Film - Part 2
If you haven’t yet seen Part 1 of this Day in the Life series, then I highly recommend you go and check it out! There I’ll tell you that this was an experiment. A trial. A test to see whether I could turn a sequence of ordinary family moments into a series of artful photographs using a ton of expired Ilford 3200.
The first half of this collection was all captured inside the family home, where the majority of life happens when you have little ones around. Every now and then you’ll venture out into the big wide world, laden with all the necessary equipment you might need to cater to their needs during that brief excursion!
This family lives in the coastal town of Hoylake on the Wirral. In fact they live just a stone’s throw from the beach. So a walk along the promenade is an easy way to get a bit of fresh air and blow the cobwebs away, even on a dreary Autumn day. The long stretch of wide pavement is perfect for little legs to practice running or riding their bike.
These small triumphs often go unrecorded, or perhaps they are snapped on our phones uploaded to the cloud only to be stumbled upon half a dozen times in future. It was a pleasure to capture these fleeting moments on this characterful, grainy black and white film and I’m happy to report that a handful of favourites from this collection are now printed and on display in their home.
Nothing makes me happier than when a photograph fulfils its destiny!
