Cheshire Newborn Photography on Film

natural unposed newborn portraits captured by family photographer Victoria Phipps

This session is an oldie but a goodie! Whilst it seems like only yesterday, I photographed baby Penelope back in May 2017.

But because these photographs were captured on medium format film and hand-finished by expert scanners, they’ll age beautifully. When handled professionally, having your portraits captured on film means beautiful, colour-correct and luminous skin tones which won’t date in years to come.

This entire newborn photography session took place at their family home, first indoors and then out in the garden. Mum & Dad hadn’t long relocated to Cheshire from Bristol before they made the shift from family of two to family of three!

As a family photographer and as a Mum, I feel strongly that babies are inherently perfect. With this in mind I don’t like to pose newborns… as long as they are comfortable and content, I’ll manoeuvre myself to find the best light and photograph them exactly as they are.

I’ll always encourage parents to be in the photograph with their little one, even if it’s just their hand in the frame with baby’s tiny fingers wrapped around theirs.

As a Mum I know how precious photographs of me and my girls when they were babies are to me now and so I make every effort to capture that close connection between Mum and baby.
