Couple Portraits in Joshua Tree National Park
Last week I had the loveliest day taking photographs on film in the Lake District with fellow photographer Molly Matcham… if you haven’t come across her work go and check it out, she’s so good and I’m excited to take some photographs for her and her family later this summer!
Molly and I met once on a film photography workshop a decade or so ago and only reconnected recently on social media (thanks instagram!). During our many chats on all things life and photography, she mentioned this collection of photographs and how they’d stuck in her mind from a blog post I published years ago on my old website.
I was astonished she recalled these photographs I had taken of two of my favourite people (Kate & Kev, also analogue photographers) in Joshua Tree, California back in 2014. But she seemed to think they had something about them and I have to say I absolutely loved taking those photographs, so I thought what the hell I’ll share them again.
Putting this post together brings back SO many happy memories of that road trip. We saw some extraordinary places… I mean just look at this landscape!
I love these photographs as much, if not more now than I did then. And because they were shot on beautiful kodak portra 400 medium format film… they stand the test of time.
Just like that day in the Lake District, this was friends taking pictures of friends and in that sense we all felt completely at ease and free to have fun with photography which is the vibe I try to bring to all my client sessions these days!
A big thank you to Kate & Kev for these memories… I honestly treasure them.
If you’re young (at heart!) and in love and fancy having your photographs taken on film in an extraordinary landscape near you, then let’s set a date to do just that!
