Romantic Couple Portraits in London’s Holland Park

Back when I was shooting weddings, I photographed a lot of engagement sessions. Many were in London as couples wanted to capture this moment in their journey together when it was just the two of them making their way in the big city! They were aware that with a wedding fast approaching, they were growing up. Perhaps there would be children, perhaps they would move back home or start a new adventure together somewhere else.

Their Friday evenings sharing a drink with colleagues at the pub after work, their slow caffeine-fuelled Saturday brunches with friends and their lazy sunny Sundays at the park had all been so precious. But they were making big plans for the next steps in their lives together. Their time in London which had been defined by their friends and their work was, for most, entering its final chapter.

This couple portrait shoot was definitely one of my favourites. He was Italian, she was English and it had been love at first sight. Plus, as you can see, they were stylish as hell!

The photography session took place in Kensington where we walked and talked whilst I kept my eye out for nooks and crannies which I felt would make a good composition for a photograph. There are so many beautiful spots in that part of London. I always want my photographs to have a strong sense of place, so Holland Park Mews with its cobbled street and immaculate terraced rows is a dream shoot location for me.

Eventually we found our way to Holland Park itself where we played chess and explored the traditional Chinese garden. You know how much I love a garden! Throw a couple of happy lovebirds in there, hand me my camera and a roll of film and I’ll be in my element.
