Where Does Your Family’s Story Live?
When did you last go home and open one of your parent’s photo albums? When did you last see your childhood captured through their eyes? What did it mean to you to travel back in time and remember how it felt to be a kid?
Traditionally our photo albums contained our happiest memories. They were stuffed full of smiles and laughter. They were the home of adventure and play. Our albums were the guardians of our most treasured memories and they were highly valued. They were built with the time, energy and love of those who cared for us most. They were shared proudly and then stored safely as prized possessions.
Note little Victoria's first day of school photograph, yes... on the toilet! A 1989 fad?!
We all take hundreds if not thousands of photographs of the little people in our lives and together they tell a story. They tell the story of the beautiful childhood we’re working so hard to give them. They tell the story of magical Christmases and fun summer holidays, family days out and cosy nights in! But where does that story live?
For most of us, it lives on a cloud. A cloud that charges us a monthly fee and promises to keep our stories safe, but a cloud that - at the end of the day - doesn’t belong to us. A cloud that, if we’re honest, we rarely visit.
A few of us take the time to create albums as the generations before us did. But most of us never quite get around to it, myself included! We persuade ourselves we are busier than our parents were and we simply don’t have time. To a certain extent that’s true, but it’s also an issue of prioritisation. Most of us could forgo a Netflix series and knock out a few photo books online… what would that mean to our families? How would they feel looking back on the best moments of 2024 or that holiday you all took last year? What would it mean to give the gift of happy memories to grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins?
As a photographer I spend a great deal of time curating and printing memories for my clients, but I have not been practising what I preach! This winter I’m determined to create a handful of physical albums that tell the story of my children’s childhood through my eyes. I know how much joy this would bring them now and I know how much it would mean to them in years to come.
If you value photography and you appreciate the power of photo albums, but you really don’t have time to curate one, then it’s time to outsource to a professional! I can work with you to design a personalised family photography session in a location which is special to you and in a way that meets your unique brief. I can capture your family’s unique story with a family album in mind, recording all the in-between moments which speak about you and your relationship to those you love in this moment. At the end of this custom experience you’d walk away with the most beautiful handcrafted album, destined to become a treasured family heirloom.
What would that mean to you and your family? If you’d like me to document this moment in your family’s journey and design a beautiful album for this chapter of your story to live in, get in touch. I’ll keep an eye out for your message!
